Canon IT Solutions partners with Menaya to provide continuous ASM services

Launched the “ASM Service” to discover and report IT assets exposed to the Internet. Discover and continuously managed IT assets that could be a potential entry point for cyber-attacks.

Canon IT Solutions Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Akira Kanazawa, hereinafter referred to as Canon ITS), a Canon Marketing Japan Group company, will begin offering the “ASM service”, which discovers unidentified IT assets on the Internet and reports risk assessments, as a new security lineup for its IT infrastructure service SOLTAGE from Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Background

Due to the expansion of cloud use and the increase in teleworking, the IT assets owned by businesses are increasing and becoming more scattered. On the other hand, those carrying out cyber attacks are placing more importance on increasing the accuracy of their attacks in a more efficient way, and attacks are increasing after selecting easy targets with insufficient security measures. In response to such cyber threats, Attack Surface Management (ASM) is attracting attention, which discovers IT assets that can be accessed from outside the organization and continuously detects and evaluates risks such as existing vulnerabilities. The global ASM market is expected to grow rapidly at an average annual growth rate of 29.3%* and in Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry published “ASM deployment Guidance” on May 29, 2023, and the introduction of ASM services by companies is beginning to spread.

Features of the ASM Service

We provide continuous ASM inspections and reports based on the ASM tool provided by Menaya.

1. Canon ITS engineers operate and report on the evaluation in an easy-to-understand manner.
The ASM tool is configured by Canon ITS to perform continuous diagnostics from the Internet side. Customers only receive and review reports, and there is no need to learn how to use the tool or set it up.

2. Risk visualization by scoring
Visualize the degree of risk by scoring IT assets that have been discovered to be publicly available on the Internet, and provide information on the priority of countermeasures and the need for vulnerability assessments.

3. Can be combined with vulnerability assessment services
After checking threats with ASM, vulnerability assessment services (to be added in the future) can be combined for more detailed vulnerability detection, enabling a comprehensive process from threat inspection to vulnerability assessment.

4. Budget-friendly price range available
Choose from a menu of services such as ASM tool initial setup, execution, continuous inspections and monthly reports, according to budget.

Outlook

The growing demand for ASM is already expanding overseas, not only to major corporations but also to medium-sized companies, and it is thought that a similar trend will occur in Japan. By adding ASM services to its lineup of security services, Canon ITS will respond to the growing demand in Japan. 1. Report commentary by debriefing session
In addition to providing a report of the ASM assessment results, a debriefing session will be conducted by a Canon ITS engineer, including how to check the documents for the initial assessment report. An option to conduct debriefing sessions on a regular basis can be added.

2. Japanese-language inquiry support by Canon ITS engineers
Although Menaya ASM tool has an English-language interface, we will set up a Japanese-language support desk staffed by knowledgeable Canon ITS engineers. We will support customers to utilize ASM tools efficiently.

ASMService Release Commemorative Webinar to be Held

A webinar will be held to commemorate the release of this service. The newly released “ASM Service” will be introduced, including the differences between vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.
